Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has announced a significant overhaul of Assam’s governance, with stringent measures against delays in processing people’s applications. A dedicated body has been established to address public complaints regarding delays in government office tasks.
Sarma, in a press note, revealed that Assam is leading the way in holding government officials accountable for their actions.
Individuals can lodge complaints at the district level against any state government employee causing delays. Unresolved complaints can escalate to a state government-established commission for further investigation. If found guilty, the responsible employee will face penalties deducted from their monthly salary, corresponding to the duration of the delay.
The Chief Minister stressed that this initiative would revolutionise the efficiency of government offices in the state. A commission chairman has already been appointed for this purpose.
Recently the state government instructed school inspectors throughout the state to start internal investigations against staff in provincialised secondary schools that acquire academic or professional qualifications during their service without obtaining prior permission from the appointing authority. In an official communication, the director stated that any school staff obtaining additional academic or professional qualifications during their tenure without obtaining prior permission is in violation of Rule 13 outlined in the Assam Civil Services (Conduct) Rules of 1965.
