Tanuj Kapilashrami, the current global chief human resources officer at Standard Chartered Bank, is slated to undertake a new role within the institution. Effective April 1, 2024, she will ascend to the position of chief strategy and talent officer, marking a significant transition in her tenure.
In this expanded capacity, Kapilashrami will not only oversee human resources but also assume responsibility for the Bank’s strategy, corporate affairs, brand and marketing, supply chain management, and property functions. By amalgamating these disparate teams, she aims to foster a holistic approach to how the Bank conceives, executes, and communicates its strategic initiatives.
Kapilashrami’s journey at Standard Chartered has been one of progressive responsibility. Initially appointed to the global management team as the CHRO in November 2018, she has since played pivotal roles in shaping the Bank’s human capital strategy. her tenure commenced in March 2017 when she assumed the mantle of group head, talent, learning, and culture, later expanding her purview to encompass global head hr for corporate, commercial, and institutional banking in May 2018.
Prior to her tenure at Standard Chartered, Kapilashrami honed her expertise at HSBC, where she traversed various HR domains across the bank’s key markets, including Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai, India, and London. Notably, she served as the Head – HR for HSBC India, contributing significantly to the bank’s strategic human capital initiatives.
Beyond her corporate endeavours, Kapilashrami maintains a robust presence in governance and academia. She presently serves as a non-executive director on the board of Sainsbury’s PLC, a prominent UK-based supermarket chain, and as a board member of the UK Financial Services Skills Commission. Additionally, she holds a position on the Asia house board of trustees. Kapilashrami’s intellectual pursuits are further evidenced by her forthcoming book, ‘The Skills-powered Organisation – The Journey to the Next Generation Enterprise,’ slated for publication by the MIT Press in 2024.
Kapilashrami holds an MBA in HR from XLRI Jamshedpur, complemented by a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Delhi University. As she transitions into her new role at Standard Chartered Bank, Kapilashrami brings with her a wealth of experience and a nuanced understanding of both human capital and strategic imperatives, poised to steer the Bank towards its future endeavours.
